You are somewhere there on it…

Take a look at your feet.

Stop. Bend. Look at your feet. You are standing on a sphere.

A blue sphere. It’s huge. Now you are like an ant standing on the summit of Mount Everest trying to figure out the shape of the mountain.

Well, imagine you are big. So big that you can hold the planet in your hands like a tennis ball and look at it with a magnifying glass. Zoom in. You will see..

There are things NOT moving so often.

Call them rocks, mountains and stuff — simple stuff

There are things moving often in a repeated fashion.

Call them trees, water, cloud and stuff — complex

There are things that navigates with better control

Interesting. Call them animals and birds — complicated

Give the third kind a fancy name “life”. How much of life are there on this sphere? zoom in..

Ah! not a lot.

Like a thin paint sprayed here and there on a big ball protected by another thin layer of some transparent stuff. This transparent layer is like a varnish to hold the paint. Rub a little with your palm and the paint is gone. This varnish is too thin to stop it. (Daniel Dennette — TED)

It’s worth thinking about it in the middle of a project meeting in a Monday morning.
